Refuge du Chesnay

France - Île-de-France - Le Chesnay

This cat-only refuge in Le Chesnay combines adoption, long-term care and boarding for members’ cats. A house and its gardens have been adapted to support animals with very different needs.

A house transformed into a cat refuge

The founders made a house in Le Chesnay available to abandoned animals. After operating as a departmental delegation, the association became autonomous in August 1994. Buildings and gardens were gradually adapted, creating a cattery, infirmary and separate spaces for newly arriving cats.

Preparing for a meeting and the paperwork

The adoption page describes different temperaments and needs, including among adult cats. The refuge asks for identification, proof of address and a carrier. Discuss your chosen cat with the team to understand its circumstances and any care that will need to continue.

Different commitments when adopting a kitten

Adults are described as tested, vaccinated, identified and sterilised. Kittens are tested, identified and given their initial vaccination; adopters pay for later sterilisation, backed by a deposit. Discuss this distinction before adoption so that you understand which arrangements and expenses will still be your responsibility.

Supporting cats who stay longer

Some cats remain at the refuge long term because of their age, health or difficulty settling into a family. Sponsorship lets supporters choose one or more cats, receive personal updates and arrange visits. It contributes to everyday care without requiring an adoption.

Boarding for members’ cats

Boarding takes place in dedicated accommodation and is separate from adoption. The site describes veterinary visits and staff able to provide particular care. Its price table is labelled 2025, so ask the refuge about current conditions and availability before planning a stay for your cat.

Obtain agreement before bringing a cat

If a serious difficulty means you need to request a placement, contact the refuge before transporting the animal. Admission depends on its agreement. The placement procedure calls for identification and the cat’s health record; it does not promise immediate acceptance.

Arrange a visit or offer practical help

Visits are by appointment, 14:30–17:30 except Sundays, at 43 avenue de Vaucresson. Contact 01 39 54 59 55 or refugeduchesnay@free.fr. The refuge also seeks help with daily tasks or administration. The AnimalProtech map locates this cat refuge in the Yvelines area.
