A dog refuge with roots in 1979
Association Rissoise de Protection des Animaux began in Ris-Orangis in 1979. In January 2014, its dogs moved into refurbished premises surrounded by greenery. The team combines accommodation upkeep, exercise-yard time, walks and treatment while continuing to seek family homes for older and ill dogs as well as younger residents.
Rebuilding confidence before adoption
Some dogs arrive with fears or social difficulties connected with their past. The refuge describes reassurance and rehabilitation work with volunteers skilled in behaviour. Observations of reactions, lead walking and relationships with other dogs help identify a compatible environment, rather than simply finding any available household.
The form comes before the appointment
Every request starts with the adoption or fostering form. If the proposed conditions are suitable, a phone discussion precedes a refuge meeting. Adoptions are by appointment only. To enable follow-up, its stated placement area is Île-de-France and nearby neighbouring areas, with possible exceptions for certain rescue cases.
Loaned equipment and a follow-up visit
After approval on both sides, a contract is drawn up with identity and address documents. An adoption contribution applies to adoption placements. The refuge lends a harness, lead, collar and tag suited to the dog. A home visit a few weeks later checks how the placement is progressing; the loaned equipment is collected then.
A home for the rest of the dog’s life
Some dogs can move into permanent foster care rather than adoption. The commitment lasts until the end of their lives, with veterinary expenses covered by the refuge, including condition-related care and vaccines. Carers must be able to attend the partner veterinarian in Viry-Châtillon for health follow-up.
Funding care for dogs already in homes
Sponsorship supports veterinary expenses for former residents in permanent foster care. Sponsors contribute monthly and receive a certificate and updates by email or through the refuge’s page. Their help therefore supports dogs already enjoying family life whose treatment remains the association’s financial responsibility.
Two address descriptions for one refuge
For GPS, ARPA gives chemin du Bois de l’Hôtel Dieu, 91700 Fleury-Mérogis; its postal address uses chemin départemental 31 in Ris-Orangis. Email refugearpa@gmail.com to prepare your enquiry. The AnimalProtech map retains the Fleury-Mérogis location, distinguishing practical access from the association’s Ris-Orangis identity.
