Young-Williams Animal Center

United States - Tennessee - Knoxville

Young-Williams Animal Center serves Knoxville and Knox County through two facilities, pet-family assistance and publicly reported shelter outcomes.

A centre built through public and private support

The organisation began with the Knoxville/Knox County Animal Welfare Center in January 2001. When more space was needed, city and county funding covered kennel holding areas while a newly formed board raised private funds for the adoption floor and additional facilities. The resulting centre opened in May 2004, linking municipal needs with community fundraising.

Two facilities developed at different times

Young-Williams Animal Village opened in 2010 with a second adoption floor and Spay/Neuter Solutions. The organisation became a private nonprofit in July 2012. Today, visitors need to distinguish the Division Street Animal Center from the Animal Village on Kingston Pike. Their services share an organisation but do not all operate from the same building or follow identical schedules.

Annual figures make different outcomes visible

The organisation’s published 2025 table records 9,798 admissions, 6,412 adoptions, 1,370 returns to owners and 371 animals in its rescue category. These are different routes through shelter care, rather than interchangeable measures of adoption. Monthly impact reports provide another view of departmental activities, allowing readers to explore the organisation’s work beyond a single headline statistic.

The resource centre has moved

The Pet Resource Center and food pantry now serve clients at Animal Village, 6400 Kingston Pike. Pantry applicants complete a form before visiting. Owner surrender requires an appointment and available space, and the centre does not guarantee adoption for every surrendered animal. Contact staff about alternatives and current arrangements.

Know which adoption route you are using

Adoption preparation includes sterilisation and registered microchips for dogs, cats and rabbits. Some animals await veterinary preparation or completion of a stray hold before becoming available. Courtesy Home To Home listings follow a separate route and are not managed directly by the centre. Check the individual listing before arranging contact.
