Several routes out of the shelter
The Animal Foundation’s work in Las Vegas includes adoption, reunification with owners and transfers to partner rescues. Its 2025 report records 13,554 adoptions, 4,405 reunifications and 3,248 transfers. These are distinct routes, so an adoption figure alone does not describe all the ways the organisation helps animals leave shelter care.
Finding animals that have waited longer
Prospective adopters can consult a length-of-stay report to find animals that have been waiting the longest. At the North Mojave Road campus, visitors join a digital queue by scanning a QR code; staff can also check people in manually. Adoptions are first come, first served, and the shelter does not reserve particular animals.
A conversation before taking an animal home
An adoption counsellor discusses the animal, the household and the adopter’s questions. Applicants must be at least eighteen and provide identification and address information. Adoption includes sterilisation, current vaccinations and a microchip. Animals still awaiting surgery may need to remain at the shelter, so taking a pet home that day depends on its individual readiness.
Trying life together outside the kennels
The Trial Adoption programme generally allows about two weeks to discover how an animal fits into home life. The foundation provides initial food and specified medical support, while participants supply everyday equipment. It asks visitors not to bring resident pets for introductions at the shelter; counsellors instead provide information about introducing animals outside that environment.
Fostering, outings and medical support
In 2025, the foundation reported 2,003 animals in foster care and 2,721 dog field trips, two different forms of time away from kennels. Its donor-funded CARE Fund also supported treatment for 242 animals with serious illness or injury. Consult the current foster and adoption pages for available animals and participation requirements, because these change as animals move through care.
