A response to the closure of Barcelona’s racetrack
SOS Galgos was founded in Esplugues in 2000 by veterinarian Albert Sordé and Anna Clements, with roots in the Tres Vet clinic. Their involvement followed the closure of Barcelona’s dog racetrack in 1999 and concern for the greyhounds left there. Schools arrange participation with the organisation.
Working on the causes of abandonment
SOS Galgos also pursues legal and social change. A research collaboration with the Autonomous University of Barcelona’s law faculty examined the status of galgos and compared animal-protection frameworks. The organisation presents this research as support for its advocacy; it should not be confused with a claim that the proposals have already become law.
