Soi Dog Foundation

Thailand - Phuket - Ban Mai Khao

Soi Dog Foundation connects street-animal treatment and sterilisation with community support, education and rehabilitation at Phuket’s Gill Dalley Sanctuary.

Care on the streets and at the sanctuary

Founded in 2003, Soi Dog Foundation works with dogs and cats whose lives are shaped by injury, abandonment and street conditions. Its Gill Dalley Sanctuary in Phuket provides physical and behavioural rehabilitation, while outreach teams care for animals in their communities. The organisation also supports adoption in Thailand and overseas through its adoption team and rescue partners.

What Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return means here

The CNVR programme began in Phuket in 2003 and expanded in 2015, particularly into Bangkok. Animals are caught, sterilised and vaccinated before return, combining population management with preventive care. In 2025, a partnership with Battersea added two teams dedicated to stray cats, extending a programme often associated with dogs to another substantial street population.

Working with the people who already feed animals

Veterinary outreach visits places where street animals gather, including temples and beaches. Teams provide basic treatment and teach local carers to recognise illness and injury. A feeder network also receives regular dog and cat food. This community presence helps identify problems earlier while hospital places remain available for animals needing more intensive care.

Changing everyday care through education

Soi Dog introduced humane education in 2017 and opened an education centre at the sanctuary in 2020. A 2024 partnership with Phuket’s primary education authority extended school-based work. Lessons address animals’ needs, responsible ownership and bite prevention, while veterinary trainees can learn from the shelter team’s clinical experience.

Regional advocacy and ways to participate

Its Hanoi partnership aims to reduce the dog and cat meat trade through awareness, enforcement training and alternative livelihoods. These are programme aims, not a claim that the trade has ended across Asia. Explore the CNVR programme, community work and sanctuary participation.
