Support that reaches beyond adoption
Seattle Humane serves animals and their people from its campus in Bellevue, Washington. Adoption remains part of its work, alongside help with the practical problems that can separate a pet from its family. Its May 2026 programme account also described monthly transfers from Riverside County, helping a partner shelter create room for more animals.
Temporary care with reunification as the goal
SPOT, or Supporting Pet Owners in Transition, uses Seattle Humane’s foster network when housing insecurity, hospitalisation or another personal crisis makes temporary care necessary. Care can last up to 90 days. The purpose is to reunite animals with their existing families, giving an owner an option to consider before permanent surrender.
How SPOT placement is arranged
Owners begin with an intake form, after which staff review the animal’s information and discuss the next steps. Admission is by appointment. A pet may initially stay in the shelter while a foster home is found and may use more than one foster home. The programme provides necessary vaccinations and requires sterilisation, provided without charge, for animals entering its care.
Two different routes to a temporary home
Seattle Humane also points owners towards friends, family and the Home to Home fostering platform. Home to Home connects owners directly with possible temporary carers. Although affiliated with Seattle Humane, those arrangements are separate from SPOT and its regular foster programme: the foster department does not supply medical care, behavioural care, supplies or case management for them.
Food and veterinary support
Oogie’s Ohana Pet Food Bank tackles another pressure on family budgets. In May 2026, Seattle Humane reported providing nearly one million meals annually through the bank, alongside low-cost public sterilisation and income-qualified vaccination services. Consult the SPOT guidance for applications and the 2026 programme account for context. Locate the organisation on the AnimalProtech map.
