Helping before an animal loses its home
ROLDA’s education work in Romania connects animal welfare with the circumstances that can lead to abandonment. It combines information for the public with support for owners who struggle to meet their animals’ needs. Rescue remains part of the work, but preventing a separation is also a practical aim of its community programmes.
Learning to understand dogs
Speak Toto language is the name of an educational initiative designed to help people recognise dog body language and adjust their own behaviour. The organisation identifies children and older people among the audiences it wants to reach. The focus is on understanding the animal in front of someone, rather than assuming every encounter will unfold in the same way.
Information and sterilisation together
ROLDA distributes welfare material, much of it available online to download and share. Its community work also includes free sterilisation for dogs and cats belonging to disadvantaged owners. Combining information with access to a practical service addresses both understanding and the financial obstacles that can prevent people from acting on it.
A programme for older pet owners
FriendsForever is specifically directed towards Romanian senior pet owners. Its aim is to help them keep their companions healthy and avoid a forced separation. This adds a distinct household-support role to the charity’s rescue work, recognising that some animals need assistance within the home they already have rather than a search for a new family.
Prevention within shelter care
ROLDA also maintains projects supporting vaccination of rescued dogs and cats and heartworm prevention for dogs in its care. These programmes concern the continuing veterinary needs of shelter residents, beyond the initial rescue. The official education and project pages explain how contributions can support public information, help for existing owners or ongoing care for rescued animals.
