Veterinary access brought into the community
PEACEAnimals was established in 2013 after the dissolution of PEACE Mexico. Its work centres on free mobile sterilisation clinics for dogs and cats around Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay. Bringing a clinic into a neighbourhood reduces the distance residents must travel with an animal and makes local participation central to the programme.
A temporary clinic needs a local host
Clinic venues can include schools, public buildings, storefronts and homes made available by supporters. A local coordinator helps secure a practical site with water, electricity, toilets and storage. Accessibility matters: the organisation seeks locations that community members can reach, including people who arrive on foot with their animals.
What volunteers contribute on clinic days
Volunteer work begins with preparation of the venue and registration of arriving animals. Registration records contact and relevant medical information so the team can organise care and return animals to the correct person. Volunteers also assist with recovery under supervision, coordinate collection and help clean the premises after the clinic has finished.
How attendance is organised
The published clinic process uses arrival order rather than appointments. It normally limits each person to two animals per day, with additional animals dependent on available capacity. This approach means a published clinic does not guarantee a place for every arrival. Owners should consult the specific announcement and obtain preparation instructions directly from the veterinary team.
Education and the handover home
PEACEAnimals complements surgery with educational work, including activities for schools. At collection, the clinic process includes identification checks and written information about the animal’s care. Residents can use the official clinic information to find upcoming locations, while prospective community hosts can learn what facilities and local support are needed to bring a clinic to their neighbourhood.
