From Taghazout dogs to a wider rescue network
Morocco Animal Aid began in 2015 with people helping street dogs in Taghazout. Its volunteer work expanded to rescuing and rehabilitating animals around Agadir. Emergency cases described by the organisation include road accidents, wounds caused by other animals and signs of infection, with veterinary treatment arranged according to the animal’s needs.
NoMad Dogs combines sterilisation and vaccination
NoMad Dogs is the organisation’s community neutering and vaccination programme. Ear tags help identify animals that have received both procedures. Alongside emergency treatment, this work addresses the continuing needs of animals living in shared outdoor territories. Volunteers check animals in their areas, making observation and follow-up part of the effort rather than relying only on shelter admission.
Care can take place in the neighbourhood
Not every animal needing help can enter the shelter. Morocco Animal Aid provides assistance with medication and longer-term care on the streets when appropriate, preserving space for emergencies. It also works with local businesses, residents and community projects, offering tools and information so people can help care for animals in their own surroundings.
Foster homes provide a quieter recovery setting
Temporary homes can help an animal recover from illness or surgery, practise living in a household or leave a crowded shelter environment. The team assesses applicants’ circumstances and helps match a suitable animal. Foster carers receive equipment and advice; proximity to the shelter and a stable living arrangement form part of the published participation requirements.
Adoption involves preparation before travel
The adoption process includes household assessment and medical preparation. International placements also require transport planning; an available flight volunteer is never guaranteed. Confirm destination requirements with the relevant authorities and travel arrangements with the team and carrier before booking. Supporting local care, fostering or sponsorship also helps animals whose recovery or longer-term needs keep them in Morocco. Official programme information · AnimalProtech map.
