A foundation built around animal rescue
Fundacja Centaurus has worked for animals since 2006. Horses and donkeys are central to its story, alongside dogs, cats and farm animals. The foundation began school education in 2007 and its first horse adoptions in Poland in 2008, combining direct rescue with finding suitable homes and explaining animal welfare to younger audiences.
Different places for different needs
In 2012, Centaurus acquired its animal farm in Szczedrzykowice, near Legnica. Its history also records reserve grazing in Przemkowski Landscape Park from 2018 and the acquisition of a rehabilitation site in Wojcieszów in 2020. These locations reflect different aspects of care, from the farm’s daily routines to space for grazing and rehabilitation.
Why some horses need continuing support
Age, illness or past trauma can prevent a horse from moving into an ordinary adoptive home. Centaurus offers virtual adoption for such residents, allowing people to support an animal without taking it away from the foundation. This recognises that rescue can lead to a long-term care commitment rather than a quick placement.
How virtual adoption works
Supporters choose an animal, read its profile and submit an online form with their intended contribution. After the first payment, the programme provides a virtual-caregiver certificate and regular photographs. Full or partial support is possible, allowing more than one person to contribute to an animal’s care rather than requiring every sponsor to cover all costs alone.
Physical adoption is a separate decision
The foundation also describes a possible combination of physical and virtual adoption for selected horses whose condition is stable but who cannot be used conventionally for riding. Such placements require discussion with the team. The official history and sponsorship pages help readers distinguish taking responsibility for a horse at home from supporting one that continues living in the foundation’s care.
