Veterinary access through local partnerships
East Bay SPCA works with San Leandro and Livermore to offer limited trap-neuter-return appointments for residents caring for feral cats. These appointments are booked by telephone, separately from pet surgery bookings. The programme includes sterilisation, identifying ear marking and tattooing, pain medication and vaccinations, with current eligibility and availability confirmed by the clinic.
Preparing for the right service
The community-cat page asks caregivers to distinguish unsocialised cats from tame strays or possibly owned animals before arranging trapping. It also provides clinic-specific preparation and recovery guidance. Caregivers should plan transport and a suitable holding space with those instructions in mind, and discuss an animal’s condition with the veterinary team rather than assuming every cat fits the programme.
Learning at two campuses
Youth activities take place at the Oakland and Dublin campuses, while community education reaches Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Animal camps combine games, creative projects and encounters with suitable animals. Shelter Scouts offers supervised learning and volunteer opportunities for ages eight to seventeen, and teen camp roles introduce leadership responsibilities alongside the education staff.
Animal encounters follow animal needs
Camp staff choose animals according to suitability, health and comfort. A changing shelter population means activities may be adjusted as animals are adopted or need different care. Children also make enrichment items and other materials for shelter pets. Families should check the particular session’s age range and arrange discussion of learning or support needs before registration.
Planning participation and financial help
The camp programme offers a limited number of need-based scholarships, with awards and places dependent on the applicant pool. Families awaiting a scholarship decision are told not to register and pay first, because previous fees cannot be reimbursed through that route. Parents provide lunch and snacks, and should check pickup arrangements because extended care is not currently offered. Official programme information · AnimalProtech map.
